What is Smart Information Management?
‘Smart Information Management’ is a term used to embody a number of hardware and software techniques which, acting in concert, dramatically improve end-to-end network performance for applications where intermittent communication and/or limited bearer bandwidth is a serious issue.
Smart Information Management Units (IMU)
The generic IMU is a novel implementation of the concept of one entity acting on behalf of another. Within the defence community this is known as a “Virtual Presence”
The Concept
The idea of the Virtual Presence is not new. For example, UK Submarine operations have always relied on the concept. Initially this was achieved manually, with headquarters staff acting on a submarine’s behalf, trying to anticipate the Commanding Officer’s needs.
IMU Adaptability and Flexibility of Use
The rules based processing is dynamically configurable by the user and the software architecture of the system permits ready upgrade, allowing current and future information infrastructure systems and applications to be routed through the system. Security and audit features are an integral feature of the IMU architecture.
